MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin says he has interviewed four people for the Brewers’ managerial vacancy.
He wouldn’t give any names. But media reports said they included former Cleveland manager Eric Wedge, Dodgers’ Triple-“A” skipper Tim Wallach, and Angels of Anaheim bench coach Ron Roenicke. Former Seattle and Arizona manager Bob Melvin says he’ll be interviewed next week for the Milwaukee vacancy.
Houston Astros’ manager and former Brewers’ infielder Cecil Cooper says he’d like to be considered. And the New York Times says former Mets’ skipper Bobby Valentine may also be getting interest from the Brewers.
Melvin says he’ll interview about 10 candidates, pare down the list, and do a second round of interviews. The process could take 2-to-3 weeks, and it might not be finished until after the World Series is over. Meanwhile, Brewers’ batting coach Dale Sveum interviewed yesterday for the managerial opening in Pittsburgh. Ken Macha, who was let go by the Brewers this month, interviewed with the Pirates on Tuesday.
