Badgers take down No. 1 Buckeyes 31-18

Wisconsin Sports
-- For the first time in 29 years the Wisconsin football team has taken down number-one.

MADISON - For the first time in 29 years the Wisconsin football team has taken down number-one.

Wisconsin's 31-18 decision over Ohio State means the nation's top-ranked team has lost for a second consecutive week. Alabama was upset last week. It's Wisconsin's first win over a No. 1 ranked team since a 21-14 win over Michigan in 1981 and the first time Wisconsin has beaten a No. 1 ranked Ohio State team since a 17-7 win in 1942, also in Madison.

John Clay ran for 104 yards and scored twice, while James White clinched the upset with a fourth quarter TD. The Badgers never trailed. David Gilreath returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a score and the Badgers rolled to a 21-3 halftime edge. The Buckeyes powered back with two scores in the third period -- to cut the lead to three at 21-18.

White's scoring run gave Badger coach Bret Bielema his biggest victory ever and his first against a top-10 ranked opponent. The Wisconsin record improves to 6-1, including 2-1 in Big Ten Conference play. The Badgers pushed themselves back into the picture for the Rose Bowl. After the stunning win, UW players and 20,000 fans gathered on the Camp Randall Field at the big "W" at the 50 yard line.

Next week is another big game for UW as they play at Iowa, which beat Michigan 38-28 in Ann Arbor. Both teams are 6-1 overall. Kick-off is at 2:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
