Ellsworth blanked by Prescott 20-0
There was still fight left in the Prescott High School football team despite so many close losses this season. The Cardinals certainly showed it Thursday in a 20-0 win over Highway 10 rival Ellsworth at Fuller-Symes Field.By: By Eric Lear - Red Wing Republican-Eagle, Pierce County Herald
Turnovers were to blame for the Panthers' loss Thursday in their season-finale.
"Losing the ball, that's what killed us," Ellsworth quarterback Bryce Stockwell said.
Ellsworth lost all four of its fumbles in a 20-0 loss to Prescott. The Cardinals fumbled five times but only lost one.
Fumbles ended several promising drives for Ellsworth. Stockwell looked as if he was going to scamper into the end zone in the fourth quarter after marching his team downfield through the air; however, he bobbled the ball as he crossed the goal line and fumbled in the end zone.
Tanner Eggenberger, who averages 81 yards per game on the ground, rushed for 14 yards on 12 carries in his last high school football game. He led the Panthers in tackles with 21. As a team, the Panthers netted just 21 yards on the ground.
Ellsworth finished the season 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the Middle Border Conference.
Stockwell threw for 193 yards on the evening. Sophomore Alex Campbell caught five passes for 72 yards while senior Chris Niedfeldt totaled 72 yards on four catches.
Prescott finished the year with a 3-6 record and also 2-5 in the MBC. The Cardinals have won three in a row against Ellsworth.
