MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota Vikings’ coach Brad Childress was fined $35,000 by the NFL yesterday, for his criticisms of game-and-league officials after Sunday night’s loss to the Packers.
Childress told a Twin Cities’ radio station it was the worst-officiated game he had ever seen. And he criticized game referee Scott Green and league officiating vice-president Carl Johnson. Childress said Johnson had told him that Visanthe Shiancoe’s diving catch in the end zone should have been a touchdown – and a touchdown catch by Packers’ tight end Andrew Quarless would have been overturned had the coach challenged the play.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said on Monday that coaches can ask Johnson about any game calls, but they’re supposed to keep those conversations quiet – which Childress didn’t.
