NEW ORLEANS - The Milwaukee Bucks lost their season opener at New Orleans last night, 95-91.
The game was tied at the half. The Hornets used an 11-0 run to go up by six after the third quarter. Milwaukee got to within one with 70 seconds left when Chris Paul made two free throws – and the Bucks couldn’t recover.
Head Coach Scott Skiles said the Bucks did not have great focus, especially on defense.
David West led New Orleans with 22 points. Paul had 17 points and 16 assists, and he fell three assists short of a NBA record for a season opener. Carlos Delfino led Milwaukee with 19 points. Andrew Bogut had 15 points and 15 rebounds in his first regular season game since his hand-and-elbow injuries last April. Brandon Jennings also had a double-double for the Bucks with 15 points and 10 assists.
Milwaukee only had 10 players because of injuries to Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Chris Douglas-Roberts, and Jon Brockman. Douglas-Roberts will be out two-to-three weeks after being poked in the eye at practice last Sunday. There was no word of Mbah a Moute’s playing status as he gets over a sprained right ankle. Brockman has a sprained left ankle, and he could be available for Milwaukee’s next game tomorrow night at Minnesota.
