Badger men's hockey hosts suprising Michigan Tech, women take on Minnesota State

Wisconsin Sports
-- Michigan Tech, off to its best start in years at 3-0-2, travels to Madison to take on the Badgers' men's hockey team for a weekend series.

MADISON - The Wisconsin men’s hockey team hosts Michigan Tech tonight and tomorrow night.

The Badgers are still looking for their first WCHA victory, after a loss and a tie at Denver last weekend. Wisconsin is 3-2-and-1 overall, and will face a Michigan Tech squad that’s 3-0-2 after being picked to finish 12th-and-last in the conference. The Huskies are averaging almost five goals a game, and they’ll killed 18-of-21 power plays by their opponents.

Wisconsin freshman forward Mark Zengerle has scored at least one point in all six games so far. That’s the longest streak to open a season since 2004, when Robbie Earl scored in his first seven contests. Zengerle has 10 points so far, including two goals.

The top-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team will host Minnesota State-Mankato this afternoon and tomorrow. The Badgers are off to a 6-0 start, and they’ve won all four of their WCHA contests against Ohio State and Bemidji State.
