MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers confirmed this morning what’s been reported for two days – that Ron Roenicke will be their next manager. The team said the 54-year-old Roenicke will get a two-year contract, with a club option for 2013. He’ll be introduced at a news conference this afternoon at Miller Park.

This will be Roenicke’s first big league managing job. He’s been with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for 11 years – the last five as their bench coach. Among other things, he went 346-283 as a minor league manager in the Dodgers’ and Giants’ organizations in the 1990’s.

Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin said Roenicke projects self-confidence, enthusiasm, and authority – and it will inspire the players to perform. Roenicke’s contract is just like the one given two years ago to Ken Macha – who left a month ago after the Brewers refused to exercise the team’s option for 2011.
