Gophers need disciplined approach to stop Illini

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota Golden Gopher head football coach Jeff Horton says his team will have to play disciplined defense against the spread option attack of Illinois this Saturday.
The 1-9 Gophers are hoping to snap a nine-game losing skid when they kick off against the 5-4 Fighting Illini on Saturday at 11 a.m. Horton says his defenders must follow their assignments more closely against an option offense because if you follow the ball instead of the assignment it is easy to be fooled and the ball is in someone else's hands.
He says his team's scout team this week may even practice without a football just to make sure the defense is following their assignments instead of where they think the football is.
