MILWAUKEE - Prairie View started well, hitting a three-point shot for a short-lived lead. It was all Marquette after that. The Golden Eagles shot 60 percent and won easily 97-58 in the season opener at the Bradley Center.
Jimmy Butler and Davante Gardner led scoring. Butler had 18 and Gardner was 7-for-7 from the floor while scoring 17. Marquette held a 53-23 lead at half and went on to win its 10th straight season opener.
As wide as the final margin of victory was, it could have been worse. Marquette missed 13 free throws.
