Waunakee, Waukesha West take final two state football titles
Waukesha West and Waunakee won the WIAA State Football Divisions 1 and 2 championships Friday at Camp Randall Stadium.
MADISON - Waukesha West and Waunakee won the WIAA State Football Divisions 1 and 2 championships Friday at Camp Randall Stadium.
Waukesha West junior Joe Schobert set a championship game record, rushing for 296 yards in the Wolverines' 45-26 win over Stevens Point. Schobert carried the ball 38 times, scoring twice, and finishing the season with 2,458 yards rushing. Schobert broke the record held by current Wisconsin Badger star John Clay when he played for Racine Washington Park. West finishes with a 13-1 record. SPASH saw its eight-game winning streak end and finished the season 10-4
Waunakee took its second straight Division 2 state football championship in emphatic fashion. The Warriors routed Cedarburg 48-7 to finish the season on top with an undefeated 14-0 record. Waunakee hasn't lost a game since October 2009. Waunakee picked off four passes in the second half and was never challenged. Leo Musso led the Warriors with 146 yards on the ground. Austin Maly caught five passes for 127 yards for Waunakee.
