Gopher hockey teams both win

The University of Minnesota men's and women's hockey teams were both winners Friday evening.

The University of Minnesota men's and women's hockey teams were both winners Friday evening.

The Golden Gopher women's team shutout Minnesota State 1-0 in Mankato, Minn. Sarah Erickson had the U's lone goal which came in the second period. Winning goalie Noora Raty made 27 saves.

The Gopher men were 6-4 winners at Mariucci Arena over Michigan Tech. The U started off with a 3-0 lead in the first period but Tech scored two goals in the same period. Minnesota scored twice in the second period to take a 5-2 lead they were able to hold on to in the third period.

Mike Hoeffel scored twice for the Gophers and had an assist. Teammate Jake Hansen had both of the Gopher goals in the second period. Jay Barriball had three assists. Milos Gordic had two goals for Michigan Tech.

Minnesota goalie Kent Patterson made 19 saves while the Huskies' Kevin Genoe made 44 saves.
