MADISON - The Wisconsin women's basketball team erased a 17-point deficit with a rally, but still fell short in the intra-state rivalry game with Marquette 66-52.
Marquette's Angel Robinson led all scorers with 21 points. Sarina Simmons had 15. Tara Steinbauer and Jade Davis led the Badgers with 11 points apiece. Sophomore Taylor Wurtz had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles started fast in the game at the Kohl Center, scoring the first 13 points. The lead grew to 17 at 27-10 and 29-12, but Wisconsin managed to tie the score at 38 with a little less than 14 minutes left. Marquette outscored the home team 28-14 the rest of the way.
Wisconsin plays in the Concord Hilton Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow and Saturday in Moraga, California, opening Friday against Brigham Young.
