Despite cold shooting, UW tops Manhattan

-- The Wisconsin men’s basketball team shot only 36-percent on Thanksgiving, but it still managed to beat Manhattan 50-35 at the Old Spice Classic at the Disney Wide World of Sports complex.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Wisconsin men’s basketball team shot only 36-percent on Thanksgiving, but it still managed to beat Manhattan 50-35 at the Old Spice Classic at the Disney Wide World of Sports complex.

The Jaspers only shot 28-percent – and it allowed Wisconsin to have runs of 16-to-2 in the first half and 10-nothing in the second half. The Badgers only made 7-of-30 shots in the opening 20 minutes and took a 17-10 lead into the locker room.

Wisconsin improved after the break, hitting 50-percent of its shots to lead by as many as 23. Jon Leuer had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Badgers. Michael Alvarado had 15 points for Manhattan, which fell to 2-2.

Wisconsin improved to 3-1, and will play Boston College in its next tournament game at 11 o’clock this morning.
