WASHINGTON D.C. - The Minnesota Vikings begin the post-Brad Childress era this Sunday as they go up against the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field.

The Vikings fired Childress this week after last Sunday's, 31-3, home loss to the Packers. Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier takes over on an interim basis, but inherits a team that is just 3-7, including 0-5 on the road. Washington snapped a two-game skid with a, 19-16, overtime win at Tennessee to improve to 5-5. The Skins are two games back in the NFC East and will play three of their next four on the road after this week.

Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis has been placed on injured reserve because of a groin problem. Portis suffered a new injury to the abdominal area above his groin during this past Sunday's game against Tennessee. Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said on Wednesday that Portis will undergo surgery in the near future and won't be able to participate in football activities for several months. The 29-year-old veteran returned to the lineup against the Titans after initially suffering a groin strain in Week Five against Philadelphia. He had just 227 yards and two touchdowns on 54 carries in five games this season.
