ELMWOOD—The Chippewa Valley Roller Girls (CVRG) is Eau Claire’s first all-female slat track roller derby league.

The group has been practicing together since 2009 to form a competitive team and sustainable league. Their league is governed by the rules of the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association.

This is not like the roller derby of the ‘50s. Players cannot grab, pull, elbow or trip one another. It’s about strategy and skating skill.

CVRG is managed and operated entirely by the skaters themselves via an elected board of directors. They proudly contribute to community organizations and local charities, such as Bolton Refuge House.

The Roller Girls’ first bout was Oct. 23 at the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center. They defeated the Bull Falls Roller Dolls from Wausau.
