GREEN BAY - The UW-Green Bay men's basketball team lost at home last night to Duquesne, 81-71.

The Dukes led by five with about eight-and-a-half minutes left when they scored eight straight points to pull away. Duquesne is the nation’s leading three-point team – and they showed it by hitting 15-of-24 from beyond-the-arc. Five Dukes scored in double figures, led by T.J. McConnell with 20. Rahmon Fletcher led Green Bay with 22 points and five assists. Freshman Daniel Turner, who had surgery last summer, had his best game for the Phoenix with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Duquesne improved to 4-3. UW Green Bay dropped to 4-5, and will play at Buffalo on Saturday.

The UW-Milwaukee women are now 3-5 on the year, after losing at Michigan State last night 55-48. The 15th-ranked Spartans won their sixth straight, and they’re now 8-1. Milwaukee trailed by only two points with 3:09 to go. But the Spartans closed out the game with a 13-to-8 run. Michigan State only shot 38-and-a-half percent, but they out-rebounded the Panthers 40-to-31. Lykendra Johnson had a career-high 16 boards for the winners. Brittney Thomas and Porsche Poole led the Spartans in scoring with 11 each. Lindsay Laur scored 20 for UW-Milwaukee, which will play at Wisconsin on Sunday.

A knee injury to Marquette University forward Joe Fulce is not as bad as the team had feared. Tests yesterday showed that the senior Fulce had a severe bone bruise, and there was no indication of a break or a problem that could have ended his career. Fulce aggravated an earlier knee injury on Tuesday night, when he collided with a player on a defensive drive in Marquette’s victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He screamed in pain for a few minutes before being helped off the court and was then taken to a hospital. Fulce is listed as doubtful for Marquette’s home game against Wisconsin on Saturday.
