PRESCOTT - Prescott High School's wrestling team gave New Richmond all it could handle Thursday but lost to the Tigers 45-34.
Prescott trailed 39-4 after the first eight weight classes but quickly came back after New Richmond had to forfeit the next three weights. Prescott also was helped by pins from Josh Farr at 112 and Troy Urman at 119.
The score was 39-34 but NR won the final match by pinfall as Jason Staples defeated Colton Purfeerst in 1:54. NR also got a key win at 171 when Grant Nelson edged Tyler Dahl 4-3. Prescott's other win in the meet was a 9-1 major decision by Matt Pechacek at 160.
PHS drops to 0-2 in the MBC and weather permitting wrestles in the Shakopee, Minn. Invitational Saturday.
