PRESCOTT - Prescott's boys and girls basketball teams were double winners Thursday. The boys won 65-56 at Osceola and the girls were 35-30 winner at home over St. Paul Como Park.
Only a 15-5 run by Como Park in the fourth quarter made the score of Thursday’s non-conference game closer than it was. Prescott led 30-15 before then but struggles at the free-throw line (PHS went 10-for-25) gave the Cougars a chance to come back.
Alyssa Krings again led PHS in scoring with 14 points. Mary Kate Pryor led the team in rebounds with 10 to go with four steals.
Meanwhile the PHS boys rallied from a 36-29 halftime deficit with a 36-20 second half performance to win on the road.
The Chieftains had three players in double figures but so did PHS led by Stenerson’s 13 points, Steger’s 10 and Sam Carpenter’s 11 points. The Redbirds had higher single-digit contributions of points with Mark Nahorniak scoring nine points and Michael Lytle and Brookshaw each scoring eight.
Brookshaw sank six straight free-throws in the fourth quarter and played the whole way with four fouls.
A 22-12 surge in the third quarter out the Cardinal in front and Prescott held Osceola, 3-2 overall, to just eight points in the fourth quarter. The home team’s Lincoln Howard led all scorers with 15 points. However all but three of those points came in the first half.
Both Cardinal hoops team will be in action Tuesday with the boys at St. Croix Central and the girls at home hosting SCC.
