Twins sign Japanese infielder to three-year deal
Minnesota Sports-- The Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms on a three-year contract with Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka.
Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms on a three-year contract with Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka.
The deal is worth $9 million and includes a club option for 2014.
Nishioka, 26, is a switch-hitting middle infielder who led Nippon Professional Baseball last season with a .346 batting average to go with 11 homers, 59 RBI and 22 stolen bases. He also helped the Chiba Lotte Marines to the Japan Series title.
Nishioka played for Japan when it won the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006.
