(Update) Vikings bring in Bomar to bolster quarterback situation

With Brett Favre likely out for this weekend's game at Philadelphia, the Vikings signed quarterback Rhett Bomar from the Giants practice squad yesterday. If Favre is out, then Bomar will assume third-string duties behind Joe Webb and Patrick Ramsey.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - With Brett Favre likely out for this weekend's game at Philadelphia, the Vikings signed quarterback Rhett Bomar from the Giants practice squad yesterday. If Favre is out, then Bomar will assume third-string duties behind Joe Webb and Patrick Ramsey.

Bomar began his college career at the University of Oklahoma with Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. Bomar left Oklahoma amidst an NCAA investigation about receiving payment for work he never completed for a booster. He finished his career as the all-time passing leader at Sam Houston State. Head coach Leslie Frazier says Romar has a strong arm.

The Vikings and Eagles kick off at 7:20 p.m. on Sunday.

It might be awhile before the partially-collapsed roof on the Metrodome is fixed in downtown Minneapolis. At least five sections need replacing before it can be re-inflated. And the stadium might not be ready to host the Minnesota Twins’ annual winter festival in late January. Bill Lester of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission says a Mexican company is getting fabric for new roof panels – but the process of making them has not started. He says workers will conduct a thorough analysis before deciding which panels will be replaced, and how a safe environment can be guaranteed at the Dome. Temporary patches have been placed on the torn panels – and they seem to be keeping warm air inside the stadium, while melting snow and ice on top of the Teflon roof.
