Letter: Poll’s sand company question too simplistic, he says

TO THE EDITOR: I appreciate your bringing the proposed expansion of the Wisconsin Industrial Sand Company to the public’s attention.

Unfortunately, I found your poll to be a bit too simplistic to adequately represent the issues. Perhaps the next poll could read “Do you mind that the Wisconsin Industrial Sand Company is using over a million gallons of water a day?”

As a resident of Maiden Rock, I am not fundamentally opposed to the expansion of the mine. What I want is to know that the proposed expansion makes sense for the area for the next 25 years. Going through the arduous public hearing process and getting information from impartial third party experts will go a long way to answering questions that have been raised by concerned citizens in the area.

I sincerely appreciate all the good things the mine has done for the community, including active participation in cleaning up the Pine Creek trout stream, volunteering to clean the village and highways in the area, and more.

That being said, I am concerned about long term impacts on our county.
