LOS ANGELES - TCU defensive coordinator Dick Bumpas says Saturday’s Rose Bowl match-up with Wisconsin is like quote, “a Ferrari and a dump truck.”
The dump truck is the Badgers’ massive offensive line – which has shown to have some speed of its own. But TCU has been known to recruit the fastest players it can find, and then teach them to play defense. It’s a winning formula for the undefeated Horned Frogs, as they try to become only the third team to lead the NCAA in total defense for three years in a row.
Badgers’ offensive coordinator Paul Chryst says TCU’s defense plays fast, and trust what it does. Safeties Colin Jones and Tejay Johnson are second-and-third on the team in tackles. Bumpas says Johnson is the quarterback of his defense. They lead the nation in passing defense, giving up just 126 yards a game – and they only allow 89 yards per contest on the ground.
