EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - The Minnesota Vikings named Leslie Frazier as their permanent head coach on Monday. Frazier led the Vikings on an interim basis following the firing of head coach Brad Childress with six games left in the season.
Despite losing to the Lions in the season finale on Sunday, Minnesota split its final six games under Frazier, who will serve as the eighth head coach in franchise history.
Frazier, 51, was the club's defensive coordinator prior to his promotion, and his units finished in the top-10 in defense in three of his four seasons at the helm. Frazier had previously been the defensive backs coach in Philadelphia from 1999-2002, then served as defensive coordinator for Cincinnati for two seasons before moving on to Indianapolis as defensive backs coach for two years. He won a Super Bowl as a player with the Bears following the 1985 season and helped the Colts capture Super Bowl XLI.
