CHIPPEWA FALLS - Donors have helped a Chippewa Falls church make up for some of the thousands-of-dollars it lost to a thief at Christmas.

Somebody took the money in a burglary at Saint Charles Borromeo Church, right after six services were held during the Christmas weekend. Some of it was supposed to go an orphanage near Lima, Peru.

Donors gave more than $15,000 after hearing about the burglary. And First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire matched $4,000, making the grand total around $20,000.

Pastor William Felix and others presented checks for the orphanage yesterday to the missions’ office of the La Crosse Catholic Diocese. Up to six-thousand dollars of what was stolen was intended for the orphans in Peru. No arrests have been made.
