EAST LANSING, Mich. - The University of Wisconsin women’s basketball team failed to score for 10 minutes last night, and lost at Michigan State 62-43.

The Badgers were up 20-10 with 6:09 left in the first half – and they didn’t score another point until almost four minutes were gone in the second half. The 11th-ranked Spartans, meanwhile, pulled away during that stretch. Also, Wisconsin was without starting post player Lin Zastrow. She hurt a hand at practice on Tuesday. As a result, Michigan State scored 38 points in the paint – and the Badgers were out-rebounded 45-to-21. Kalisha Keane and Porsche Poole both scored 12 points for the Spartans, who won their 12th straight game overall, and their 15th straight at home. They improved to 2-0 in the Big Ten and 14-1 overall. Alyssa Karel scored 16 points for the Badgers, who broke a four-game winning streak against Michigan State. They fell to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Badgers will host Minnesota on Sunday.

The UW-Green Bay women beat Youngstown State for the 11th straight time, 71-57 last night in eastern Ohio. The Phoenix were up by 24 points early in the second half. Youngstown State got to within 11 with eight-and-a-half minutes to go. Green Bay then pulled away. Julie Wojta led the Phoenix with 24 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Kayla Tetschlag had 10 points, 10 boards, and six assists for Green Bay – which improved to 3-0 in the Horizon League and 14-1 overall. Brandi Brown and Bojana Dimitrov each scored 15 for Youngstown State, which fell to 0-3 in the conference and 2-12 overall. The Phoenix will play at Cleveland State tomorrow.

The UW-Milwaukee women have their longest losing streak in 15 years after falling at Cleveland State 77-60 last night. It was the Panthers’ ninth loss in a row – the most since 1996. Milwaukee had shot 60-percent until it got cold in the second half. The Panthers went over 11 minutes without a field goal, and could not recover after that. Lindsay Laur tied a UWM record with her fifth straight double-double – 13 points and 11 rebounds. That matches a mark set by Erica Young. Shawnita Garland scored 23 for Cleveland State, which improved to 2-1 in the Horizon League and 9-5 overall. Milwaukee fell to 0-3 in the conference and 3-11 overall. They’ll play at Youngstown State tomorrow.

The Miami Heat has won 11 straight road games – and they’ll try to make it 12 tonight in Milwaukee. The Heat hasn’t played since Tuesday night, when they beat the Bucks by 12 in South Florida. LeBron James calls his team the “Heatles,” comparing Miami’s road show to the wild Beatles’ road concerts of the 1960’s. Former Marquette guard Dwayne Wade is one of the Heat’s “Big Three” along with James and Chris Bosh – and Wade says opposing crowds get on his team until they start making spectacular dunks. And then Wade says they “ooo and ahh – and it’s hard for them to boo after that.” Wade scored 34 points against the Bucks on Tuesday, including 17 in the fourth quarter when Milwaukee ran out of gas. The Bucks expect their first sell-out of the season tonight. A limited supply of tickets was still available late yesterday. It’s Miami’s second-and-last visit to the Bradley Center this season. The Bucks have lost three-of-their-last-four.

The Milwaukee Admirals won their third straight home game with a 5-1 victory over Grand Rapids, Mich. last night. Ryan Flynn scored twice, after having just one assist in his first 22 games this season. The Admirals scored all five of their goals in a nine-minute stretch in the second-and-third periods. Andreas Thurresson broke a 30-game scoring drought with a goal in the final period.

The University of Wisconsin men’s hockey team will play two non-conference games against Canisius tonight and tomorrow night in Madison. The 13th-ranked Badgers have a five-game winning streak after sweeping Massachusetts a week ago. Wisconsin is 12-7-3 overall. Canisius, which plays in the Atlantic Hockey Conference, is 6-8-4. The Golden Griffins are coming off a 10-2 loss to Notre Dame last weekend. They’ve converted on just 12-and-a-half percent of their power play opportunities. Tonight, the Badgers will honor Blake Geoffrion, who won the Hobey Baker Award last season as college hockey’s top player. Geoffrion now plays for the Milwaukee Admirals.

Meanwhile, the top-ranked Badger women will play at No. 10 Ohio State tonight and tomorrow afternoon. The Badgers are 18-2 overall, and 12-2 in the WCHA. The Buckeyes are 4-8-2 in the conference, and 10-8-2 overall.
