GREEN BAY - The UW-Green Bay women’s basketball team easily beat Loyola of Chicago at home last night, 72-51. The 23rd-ranked Phoenix pulled away with a 16-to-2 run to open the second half.

Kayla Tetschlag scored 25 points for Green Bay. Hannah Quilling had eight points, five assists, and four steals in place of injured guard Adrian Ritchie. She’s out 3-to-4 weeks with a sprained MCL knee ligament. Loyola shot only 26-percent for the game, and committed 17 turnovers in the second half. Brittany Boeke led the Ramblers with 14 points. Their leading scorer, Monica Albano, was held to five points as Loyola fell to 2-2 in the Horizon League and 8-7 overall. Green Bay has won seven straight. They’re now 5-0 in the conference and 16-1 overall. The Phoenix will host Illinois-Chicago on Saturday.

The UW-Milwaukee women scored the final 10 points in overtime last night to defeat Illinois-Chicago at home, 85-78. The Panthers were down by as many as 10 in the opening half. But they used a 14-to-2 run to get back in it. Lindsay Laur and Angela Rodriguez each scored 20 points for UWM, which won its second straight after losing nine in a row. Four Milwaukee players scored in double figures – and Laur added seven rebounds, seven assists, and three blocked shots. Ashley Imperiale scored 19 in her third game back from an injury. Shameia Green scored 28 points for Illinois-Chicago, which fell to 2-2 in the Horizon League and 7-8 overall. Milwaukee improved to 2-3 in the conference and 5-11 overall. The Panthers will host Loyola on Saturday.

University of Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi will receive his national award tonight at a banquet in Omaha. The senior Carimi was named last month as the winner of the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior lineman. He replaced 2006 Outland winner Joe Thomas at Madison. And during a news conference yesterday, Carimi said it would be up to his replacement – Ricky Wagner – to win the award. Wagner started at right tackle for the Badgers this past season, but Carimi expects him to move to the left side – the spot Carimi held for four years. He’s been training in Phoenix since Wisconsin lost to TCU in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. Carimi says he’ll fly to Cleveland tomorrow to start preparing for the Senior Bowl on January 29th in Mobile Alabama. He’ll then return to Arizona to get ready for the NFL Scouting Combine in February. Carimi was part of a beefy offensive line that helped Badger running backs John Clay and James White both rush for over a-thousand yards this season. And Carimi says one of his goals is to show the scouts that he’s a good pass blocker, too.

Brett Favre’s 34-year-old sister is due in court this morning, after police said they caught her at a house where crystal meth-amphetamines were being made. Brandi Favre was one of five people arrested during a raid at a condominium in Diamond-head Mississippi. She was jailed overnight. Hancock County sheriff’s major Matt Karl said nine grams of meth were recovered in the raid. It was valued at a-thousand-dollars. Officials also said hazardous materials’ teams had to clean out the condo. Police are recommending that Brandi Favre be charged with manufacturing meth and generating hazardous waste.
