GREEN BAY - The UW-Green Bay men have their first three-game winning streak of the season, after beating Loyola of Chicago at home last night 71-68.
The Phoenix used a 12-4 run to go up by 10 with a minute to go, and they hung on from there. Rahmon Fletcher led Green Bay with 21 points. And for the sixth straight game, the Phoenix had the rebounding edge – but just barely at 34-33. Green Bay out-shot Loyola 48-to-38 percent. Ben Averkamp had 19 points for the Ramblers, who’ve lost three straight for the first time this season. Loyola has lost eight-of-its-last-11, dropping to 1-6 in the Horizon League and 10-8 overall.
Green Bay is now 9-9 overall, and 3-3 in the conference. They’ll host Illinois-Chicago, coached by former UW-Madison player and assistant coach Howard Moore, tomorrow.
