No. 5 Gopher grapplers beat Iowa State 26-13
The No. 5 ranked University of Minnesota wrestling team won its 10th dual meet of the season 26-13 at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa Sunday.
AMES, Iowa - The No. 5 ranked University of Minnesota wrestling team won its 10th dual meet of the season 26-13 over No. 13 ranked Iowa State at the Hilton Coliseum Sunday.
Trailing 7-5 after the first three matches, the Gophers, 10-3 overall, won the next five in a row, including a forfeit at 141 pounds. No. 5 ranked Zach Sanders recorded a technical fall over the Cyclones Brandon Jones at 125 pounds.
Also winning for the Golden Gophers were Kevin Steinhaus at 184, No. 9 Tony Nelson at heavyweight, David Thorn at 133, No. 2 Mike Thorn at 141 and Danny Silverberg at 149.
The Gophers remain on the road for a pair of Big Ten matches next weekend. The Gophers take on Purdue next Friday before meeting Illinois on Sunday. Their next home meet is Jan. 30 vs. Wisconsin.
