MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi says he will evaluate the job performance of women's basketball coach Pam Borton and men's hockey coach Don Lucia when their seasons are complete.
He says that isn't anything that is new or out of the ordinary The AD says he reviews each and every coach that works for him at the end of each season. But, he does admit that he does need to take a look at Borton and Lucia because both of those programs have come under some heat recently. He says he needs to "determine at the end of the season whether the best interests of long-term health of those particular sports are with their leadership."
In other U athletic department news, University of Minnesota wrestling coach J Robinson has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the Gopher program through at least 2014. Robinson has been at Minnesota for 25 years and has never signed a multi-year contract before. He had worked his entire career at Minnesota on a series of one-year deals.
Robinson has led the Gopher program to three national titles. This year's team is ranked fifth in the nation and will be a contender for the Big Ten title.
