UW hockey teams both winners Friday

The UW men fell behind, but then exploded for three goals in the second period to take a 3-2 decision from Minnesota State-Mankato. Podge Turnbull, Jake Gardiner and Michael Mersch scored goals as the Badger men won for the ninth time in 10 games. Wisconsin's record is now 16-8-3, including 8-7-2 in WCHA play. It was the sixth straight win for Wisconsin over the Mavericks on the Kohl Center ice. UW goalie Scott Gudmandson made 37 saves, including 16 in a tense third period. Justin Schultz assisted on two of the Badgers three goals. Minnesota State outshot Wisconsin 39-30.
Senior Meghan Duggan had two goals and an assist as UW women's team defeated Minnesota Duluth Friday 4-1 at AMSOIL Arena. Duggan has had points in a school record 21 games in a row dating back to October 22. Hilary Knight and Brianna Decker each added a goal and an assist as the number-one ranked Badgers improved their record to 23-2, 17-2 in the WCHA. The Badgers outshot the Bulldogs 26-21, with Wisconsin freshman Alex Rigsby earning her eighth straight victory in net.
