The Ellsworth High School girls basketball team maintained its spot atop the Middle Border Conference standings after beating New Richmond 57-51
The Panthers built a 13-point lead at home Friday and that came in handy in the fourth quarter as New Richmond finished the game on a 19-9 run.
"They're a really scrappy team," Ellsworth coach Dave Berg said of his opponent. "They played hard and they didn't quit."
Shannon Campbell led Ellsworth in points with 15. Lydia Kuhl tallied 12 points while Kayla Christopherson scored 11 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and had four steals.
Ellsworth (6-5 overall, 3-1 Middle Border) will travel Tuesday to Osceola.
The five-team logjam atop the MBC lessen a little after Friday's games. Ellsworth, Somerset and Prescott are all 3-1. Durand did not play Friday as their game with Osceola was canceled. Prescott snapped a two-game losing streak with a 42-37 win over Baldwin-Woodville.
