MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men’s basketball team dropped to 4-4 in the Big East with a 76-68 home loss to Connecticut last night.
The fifth-ranked Huskies were down by five with 11:24 left, but they went on a 17-4 run to go in front for good. Marquette was held without a field goal for over nine minutes during that stretch.
The Golden Eagles’ defense held national player-of-the-year candidate Kemba Walker to 14 points, a season low. But Walker still made his presence felt with nine assists, six rebounds, and two steals. And freshman guard Jeremy Lamb picked up the scoring slack with a season-high 24. Jimmy Butler scored 21 for Marquette, and he became the 42nd player in school history to score over a-thousand points for his career. Jae Crowder led the Eagles in rebounding with nine.
Connecticut improved to 17-2 overall, and 5-2 in Big East play. Marquette dropped to 13-8 overall. The Eagles will host Syracuse on Saturday.
