RIVER FALLS - It’s a busy night for Wisconsin’s small college basketball teams. In the WIAC, the UW-River Falls men will host Superior. 10th-ranked River Falls leads the conference at 9-0, two games ahead of Stevens Point.

The 12th-ranked Pointers play at Whitewater. Also, Oshkosh hosts Eau Claire tonight. And La Crosse plays at Stout. In the Midwest Conference, the 13th-ranked Saint Norbert men travel to Appleton to play Lawrence. And Beloit College hosts Ripon. In the Northern Athletics Conference, Concordia-Mequon plays at Wisconsin Lutheran. Concordia is 11-0 in league play, with a two-and-a-half game lead in the North Division over Madison Edgewood. Marian plays at Edgewood, and Milwaukee Engineering is at South Division-leading Benedictine. In the CCIW, Carthage hosts North Park.

Two national Top-10 women’s teams will square off tonight, when ninth-ranked Whitewater plays at number-seven Stevens Point. The Pointers lead the WIAC at 9-0, a game-and-a-half up on Whitewater. Also, River Falls is at Superior. Stout plays at La Crosse. And Oshkosh is at Eau Claire. In the Midwest Conference, 24th-ranked Saint Norbert is at Lawrence, and Beloit hosts Ripon. Saint Norbert is 10-1 in league play, a game-and-a-half ahead of second-place Monmouth.

Milwaukee native Korie Lucious has been dismissed from the Michigan State men’s basketball team for the rest of the season. Coach Tom Izzo said the junior guard was being let go for conduct detrimental to the Spartans. Lucious was arrested last August for drunk driving in East Lansing Michigan. The charge was later reduced to reckless driving, and he served one day in jail for it. He was suspended for two games last fall. There was no immediate word on the player’s conduct since then. Lucious was averaging six-and-a-half points and four assists a game for Michigan State, playing just over 24 minutes a game. He hit a three-pointer to force overtime against Wisconsin on January 11th, in a game the Badgers went on to lose by three points. Lucious graduated from Milwaukee Pius XI High School.

The Atlanta Hawks will have their longest road winning streak since 1993 if they beat the Bucks in Milwaukee tonight. The Hawks have won six straight away from Georgia, after beating Charlotte by 16 last Saturday night. Atlanta is 29-16 on the year. The Bucks are 10 games below .500 at 16-26 after dropping two straight, including a nine-point loss at Chicago on Monday night. Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 30 points in place of shooting guard John Salmons, who has missed four games with a strained hip. Neither he nor point guard Brandon Jennings know when they’ll return. Jennings has missed 17 games with a broken left foot, and Milwaukee is only 6-and-11 without him. The Hawks are expected to have Al Horford and Marvin Williams back. Williams has been out since December 29th with a back injury. Horford has missed two games, in which Atlanta went 1-1. He’s had double-doubles in his last three games at the Bradley Center.

The Marquette University women’s basketball team will host Louisville tonight. The Golden Eagles are 3-3 in the Big East and 15-4 overall, and they’re coming off a six-point loss to Syracuse this past weekend. During that contest, Angel Robinson became the first Marquette player ever to surpass 15-hundred points, 500 assists, and 250 steals for her career. She leads Marquette with just under 14 points a game. Monique Reid is Louisville’s top scorer with just over 16 per contest. The Cardinals are coming off an 83-47 romp of Cincinnati last Saturday. Louisville is 4-2 in conference play and 13-7 overall.

University of Wisconsin men’s basketball forward Jon Leuer has been named one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior Class Award. Leuer was among 60 initial candidates for the award, which honors excellence both on-and-off the court. Fan voting will help determine the winner, and ballots are available at the Lowe’s Senior Class Award Web site and the award’s fan page on Facebook. Leuer is Wisconsin’s top scorer this season with 19 points a game, plus seven rebounds. He’s also a two-time All-Big Ten academic selection with a grade-point-average above three. The winner of the award will be announced at the men’s Final Four in Houston in early April. Wisconsin’s Alando Tucker won the Lowe’s Senior Class honor in 2007.

Jake Whitewater and Samia Taylor, both of UW-Milwaukee, are the men’s-and-women’s indoor field athletes-of-the-week in the Horizon League. Whitewater, a junior, won both the long jump and triple jump to help the Panthers beat cross-town rival Marquette. Taylor, a sophomore, set a new school record in the triple jump at 40-feet, 10-and-a-quarter inches. Kris Gauson and Kirsty Legg, both of Butler, received the men’s-and-women’s indoor track honors.

In diving, UW-Green Bay junior Daniel Pogue has won his fifth weekly award of the season from the Horizon League. Pogue was again named the league’s top diver, after he recorded a personal-best score of 340.05 in the three-meter event against Wisconsin. It was also the highest score recorded in Green Bay’s Dorschel Natatorium.

For the second week in a row, Mindy Harrington of Carthage has been named the CCIW women’s indoor track-and-field athlete of the week. The senior took second in the weight throw and third in the shot put at last weekend’s Cardinal Opener at North Central College.
