Madison digs out from blizzard, southeast Wisconsin still struggling
Wisconsin Weather-- Southern Wisconsin is slowly digging out from the Blizzard-of-2011. Public schools in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha are closed for a second straight day. But UW-Madison re-opened this morning, and the Capital City’s public schools are open while those in nearby smaller communities were either closed or delayed.

The Madison area had 12-to-15 inches of snow, but officials there have a much easier job cleaning up than in southeast Wisconsin – where Hales Corners had a record 28-inches of snow since Monday.
You would expect hospitals to be busy during a blizzard treating a host of snow-related injuries. But at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, the big task was getting babies born. The hospital normally has about 10 births a day – but the number doubled yesterday. Veteran nurse Bonnie Marcus says she’s not surprised. In her words, “When the barometer drops, the babies drop.” One mother said a dozen other women were waiting to give birth when she arrived at the hospital yesterday.
