AMERY - The Ellsworth High School boys' basketball team lost their second straight game to a team below them in the Middle Border Conference standings Tuesday. The Panthers lost to a 4-13 Amery squad 55-44.

Just the week before Ellsworth lost to a 3-14 Somerset team.

The Panthers dug themselves a deep hole in the first half as the Warriors led 29-13 at halftime.

Ellsworth played better in the second half, outscoring Amery 31-26, but the lead was too big to be overcome.

"We need to start playing hard from the opening tip," EHS head coach Cory Brathol said.

Chris Niedfeldt led the Panthers with 17 points. Jimmy Miska recorded 13.

Instead of vying with Baldwin-Woodville and New Richmond atop the league standings, these pair of losses pushes the Panthers back to fifth at 5-5, 10-7 overall. Prescott's 70-56 home loss to New Richmond has them a game ahead of Ellsworth at 6-4, tie with Osceola for third.
