Celebrations over, now Packers back to work for 2011 season
Wisconsin Sports-- As fans and players continue to celebrate, the Green Bay Packers’ management is already going to work on its roster for next season. The first order of business is to decide what to do about the 11 players who will become un-restricted free agents.
GREEN BAY - As fans and players continue to celebrate, the Green Bay Packers’ management is already going to work on its roster for next season. The first order of business is to decide what to do about the 11 players who will become un-restricted free agents.
That includes seven-year veteran defensive end Cullen Jenkins. He was Green Bay’s sack leader this season, but negotiations on a new contract failed last fall. The other free agents include running backs Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn, receiver James Jones, kicker Mason Crosby, guard Daryn Colledge, and safeties Charlie Peprah and Atari Bigby. Colledge says it’s not his choice on whether he’ll return – and it’s totally up to the Packers.
The top brass has told many of the players they’ll be in touch with their agents to start new contract talks in a couple weeks. The Packers have until March third to sign the 11 players before they become free agents. But if a new collective bargaining agreement is not settled by then, an owners’ lockout could begin on March third. In that case, all player activity would be halted except for the April draft.
