IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team escaped with a 62-59 overtime victory at Iowa last night.
The 13th-ranked Badgers shot only 18-percent in the first half – and coach Bo Ryan joked that the Iowa students were taking up a collection to challenge his players to a game of “Horse.” But Wisconsin came to life in the second half, shooting 52-percent in that period and 50-percent in the extra period.
Jordan Taylor took the game to overtime by hitting a jumper with 28 seconds left in regulation. Then in the OT, Tim Jarmusz hit a three-pointer which put the Badgers in front for good with 1:34 to play – and they hung on from there. Jon Leuer led the Badgers with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Bryce Cartwright scored 14 for Iowa, which fell to 3-9 in the Big Ten and 10-14 overall.
Wisconsin moved into a second-place with Purdue in the conference, both at 8-3. The Badgers are also 18-5 overall, as they get ready to host top-ranked Ohio State on Saturday.
