MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Bucks have 31 regular season games left – and time is running out to build momentum and get a decent playoff spot.

Last year, the Bucks went 22-8 in their final 30 regular season contests to earn their first playoff berth in four years. But injuries have prevented the Bucks from getting into any sort of rhythm this year. And they’re 11 games below .500 as they get ready to play the Grizzlies tonight in Memphis. Milwaukee is still in the hunt for the post-season. The Bucks are two-and-a-half games behind Indiana for the eighth-and-final Eastern Conference berth. Coach Scott Skiles says the key is to beat the teams which are at or below Milwaukee in the standings – and the Bucks haven’t done much of that. On Wednesday night, they fell to a Washington team that had an eight-game losing streak. Tonight, they’ll face a Memphis squad that’s 28-26.

Former Bucks’ guard Ray Allen of Boston has become the NBA’s all-time leader in three-point baskets. Allen made his 2,561st career trey last night in the first quarter of a 92-86 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Allen surpassed Indiana’s Reggie Miller, who made 25-hundred-60 three-pointers. Allen is a 15-year NBA veteran who played his first six-and-a-half seasons in Milwaukee. He needed 6,430 shots to break the three-point record. Miller didn’t do it as fast, taking 64-hundred-86 shots in a career that lasted 18 seasons.

The UW-Milwaukee men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to five games last night, with a 66-57 victory at Loyola of Chicago. The Panthers jumped out to a 16-2 lead and never looked back, as they avenged a loss to the Ramblers on January 15th. UWM was up by 12 at the half, and Loyola never got any closer than eight after that. Tony Meier scored 16 points for Milwaukee, which improved to 9-5 in the Horizon League and 14-11 overall. Andy Polka had 16 points and 14 rebounds for Loyola, which dropped to 4-10 in the conference and 13-12 overall. Milwaukee will play at Illinois-Chicago tomorrow.

Robo Kreps made a driving shot at the buzzer in overtime, as the UW-Green Bay men lost at Illinois-Chicago 63-61. Kreps came off a screen near the top of the key, and he ran to the left before making an up-and-under shot for the game-winner. It was only the Flames’ second victory in their last 14 games. Paul Carter had 22 points and nine rebounds as Illinois-Chicago improved to 2-12 in the Horizon League and 7-19 overall. Green Bay forced the overtime when Rahmon Fletcher hit a lay-up with one second left. Alec Brown scored 14 for the Phoenix, who dropped to 6-7 in the conference and 12-13 overall. Green Bay is at Loyola tomorrow.

The UW-Green Bay women got off to a slow start before rolling to an 81-50 romp at Illinois-Chicago. The 18th-ranked Phoenix shot just 39-percent in the first half – but they still led by 13 at the break thanks to Kayla Tetschlag, who scored 12 of her 19 points in the first 20 minutes. Celeste Hoewisch scored 20 for Green Bay, which out-rebounded the Flames 44-to-31. Julie Wojta had 11 boards to go with her 10 points. Taylor Foulks scored 14 for Illinois-Chicago, which dropped to 5-6 in the Horizon League and 10-12 overall. UIC committed 21 turnovers, while shooting 32-percent for the game. Green Bay has now won 14 straight. They’re 12-0 in the conference and 23-1 overall. The Phoenix will play at Loyola tomorrow.

The UW-Milwaukee women committed 18 turnovers last night in losing at Loyola 89-74. The Ramblers went up by nine at the half and stayed in control after that. Milwaukee shot 44-percent, and Lindsay Laur was the Panthers’ top performer with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Loyola made 10-of-21 from three-point range. Lisa Samplawski scored a career-high 23 points for the Ramblers, who improved to 5-6 in the Horizon League and 11-11 overall. Milwaukee’s defeat was the only the third in its last nine. The Panthers dropped to 6-6 in the conference and 9-14 overall. They’re at Illinois-Chicago tomorrow.

Samantha Logic of Racine J.I. Case High School has been chosen to play in the McDonald’s All-American girls’ high school All-Star basketball game on March 30th in Chicago. Logic was one of 24 seniors announced yesterday for the two squads that will play each other. The six-foot guard is a leading candidate for the state’s player-of-the-year. She’s averaging 14 points, nine rebounds, six-and-a-half assists, and three steals per game. Logic was one of seven Wisconsin players nominated for the McDonald’s event. She’ll play her college ball at Iowa this fall
