MADISON - The top-ranked University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team completed a two-game sweep of No. 8 North Dakota with an 8-4 victory in Madison Sunday at the Kohl Cneter.

Brianna Decker and Meghan Duggan had two goals apiece in Wisconsin’s final regular season home game. Hilary Knight extended her scoring streak to 16 games with one goal and one assist. Ten players scored points, and the Badgers exploded for five goals in the second period. Goal-tender Becca Ruegsegger had 23 saves as she improved to 9-1 on the year. The Badgers improved to 22-2-2-2 in the WCHA and 28-2-2 overall. Eighth-ranked North Dakota was out-shot 37-27. The Fighting Sioux fell to 15-9-2 in the conference and 17-10-3 overall. The Badger women will wrap up their regular season next weekend at Minnesota State.

The Milwaukee Bucks have lost seven-of-their-last eight games – and they’ll try to turn things around tonight when they host the Los Angeles Clippers. The Bucks are coming off a home loss to Indiana on Saturday night, while the Clippers lost 98-93 at Toronto yesterday. The Clippers are 1-5 on an eight-game road trip. Both the Bucks and LA have 20 victories this season, and the Clips have one more loss with 34. One of the Clippers’ victories came over the Bucks on January 31st in LA, when rookie center Blake Griffin exploded for 32 points and 11 rebounds. Griffin made 13-20 shots in that game, and Bucks’ coach Scott Skiles was forced to use several players to defend him – including Andrew Bogut, Ersan Ilyasova, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. Griffin is the only player in the NBA to average at least 20 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists per contest.

University of Wisconsin athletic officials say they’re looking into a claim by Ohio State forward Jared Sullinger that he was spit on by Badger basketball fans on Saturday in Madison. Sullinger, a freshman, wrote on Twitter that he was spit on both before the game, and afterward by fans who rushed the court after the Badgers upset the top-ranked Buckeyes 71-67. It was Ohio State’s first loss of the season. Wisconsin assistant athletic director Justin Doherty said officials are looking into Sullinger’s claims. He had 19 points and 12 rebounds against the Badgers. And he tweeted quote, “To be spit on is just nasty, on top of that in my face – before and after the game – I just kept walking – More fuel to the fire.” That last comment apparently referred to the fact that Wisconsin plays at Ohio State in their regular season finale on March sixth. Sullinger didn’t say a word about it to the media after the game. In fact, he praised the Kohl Center crowd for its spirit in rushing the court.

In hockey, the Milwaukee Admirals scored all their goals in the first 17 minutes yesterday, as they defeated Rockford 5-2 at the Bradley Center. Despite the scoring outburst, the Admirals were held to a season-low 16 shots – and they only made three shots in the final 40 minutes. Chris Mueller and Mark Van Guilder each scored two goals for Milwaukee, which is now one point behind first-place Houston in the American Hockey League’s West Division.
