Gopher wrestlers tie Penn State 18-18
Minnesota Sports-- The University of Minnesota wrestling team remains undefeated in the Big Ten after tying Penn State 18-18 at the Sports Pavilion yesterday.
MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota wrestling team remains undefeated in the Big Ten after tying Penn State 18-18 at the Sports Pavilion yesterday.
The Gophers came into the match the 5th ranked team in the country, while Penn State entered the match as the 3rd ranked team in the country.
The U won five out the 10 matches. Winning were Zach Sanders at 125 pounds, Mike Thorn at 141, Cody Yohn at 165, Kevin Steinhaus at 184 and Sonny Yohn at 197. Both Yohn and Steinhaus had major decision which put the U ahead 18-15 before Penn State won at heavyweight.
Minnesota, 15-3-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the Big Ten will close out their regular season schedule on Sunday when they host the 2nd ranked Iowa Hawkeyes at Williams Arena for the Big Ten duals title. The Gophers also won this past weekend at Michigan 22-12 with Sanders scoring a pinfall to start the dual and Steinhaus recording a major decision to keep Michigan at bay.
