ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Minnesota women's basketball team beat Michigan last night in a double-overtime thriller 82-78 in Ann Arbor.
The Golden Gophers led by three in the closing moments of regulation when Michigan's Veronica Hicks banked in a 40-foot desperation three-point shot to send the contest to overtime. The Gophers and Wolverines each scored six points in the first overtime. In the second extra session, the Gophers hit key free throws late to seal the win.
Gopher junior Kiara Buford of St. Paul scored 21 points, while Becker native Brianna Mastey tallied a career high 19. The Gophers close out the regular season by hosting Big Ten champion Michigan State on Sunday.
