PRESCOTT - Prescott High School's girls basketball team played like a group which knew it controlled its own destiny. It led to an 18-5 start and an eventual 55-47 win over Ellsworth at the second Coaches vs. Cancer Highway 10 Rivalry Classic game to raise money for the American Cancer Society Thursday.

Somerset lost again Thursday, 44-41 to Durand and Amery won too, so three teams share the lead in the Middle Border Conference at 9-4. Prescott hosts Somerset next Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Prescott outscored the visiting Panthers 18-5 in the first quarter. Ellsworth fought back in the second half and had possession of the ball four straight times with the game tied, but it failed to take advantage.

"We got some good shots and in some instances more than one shot," Ellsworth coach Dave Berg said to the Red Wing Republican-Eagle.

Prescott won thanks in part to a decided advantage at the free-throw line. It made 21 of 30 foul shots while Ellsworth was 5-for-13 at the line.

Megan Murphy was 7-for-10 free throw shooting and finished with 14 points. PHS' Alyssa Krings led all scorers with 23 points.

Shannon Campbell led Ellsworth (9-12 overall, 5-8 Middle Border Conference) with 12 points. Abbey Ristow added six points and 11 rebounds.
