Double win for Golden Gopher pucksters
Minnesota Sports-- The University of Minnesota hockey teams were double winners Friday evening. The men's team routed Michigan Tech 5-2 and the women won their WCHA playoff opener 4-2 over Ohio State.
MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota hockey teams were double winners Friday evening. The men's team routed Michigan Tech 5-2 and the women won their WCHA playoff opener 4-2 over Ohio State.
The U women scored the first four goals and the lead held up for a period and a half despite two Buckeye goals from Laura McIntosh. Jen Schoullis scored two goals, Anne Schleper had two assists and Sarah Erickson had a goal and assist for the Gophers. Minnesota had two power play goals and goalie Noora Raty made 24 saves at Ridder Arena
The Gopher men trailed 1-0 in the second period at Mariucci Arena when they scored four unanswered goals. Nick Bjugstad had two goals and one assist for the U, which now moves into fifth place in the WCHA standings. Goalie Kent Patterson made 28 saves. Minnesota is now 14-12-5 and is now above .500 in the WCHA at 11-10-4.
