MU wins easily at home over Providence

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's basketball team had an easy time with Providence yesterday, winning 86-62 at the Bradley Center.
The Golden Eagles never trailed, as they’ve won three straight games for the first time since early December. The Eagles led by 13 at the intermission, and made 10-of-13 shots to open the second half. Marquette out-shot Providence 52-to-31-percent, and made 20-of-24 from the free throw line compared to 10-of-17 for the Friars. The Eagles owned the paint with a 44-to-30 scoring advantage, and they out-rebounded the Friars 48-33. Five Marquette players scored in double figures, led by Darius Johnson-Odom with 17. Marshon Brooks was held to 17 for Providence, one game after he scored a Big East-record 52 points in an overtime loss to Notre Dame.
Providence fell to 3-13 in conference play, and 14-15 overall. Marquette improved to 9-7 in the conference and 18-11 overall. They'll host Cincinnati on Wednesday as they begin the final week of regular season play. Tonight, the Marquette women close out their regular season at Cincinnati.
