(St. Paul, MN) -- A bill for the construction of a new Vikings stadium could be introduced this week at the state capitol.

The team wants taxpayers to foot more than half the cost for a new stadium but key lawmakers say a statewide tax wouldn't pass at the Legislature. That means most of the burden would probably fall on Twin Cities taxpayers who live near one of five potential stadium sites.

A Vikings player faces a gun charge in Lynchburg, Virginia. Police arrested Minnesota cornerback Chris Cook late Saturday, saying he brandished a handgun. The 24-year-old Lynchburg native says he just received his license to carry a concealed weapon but denies pulling a gun on a neighbor during an argument. An NFL spokesman says Cook can't be punished under the league's personal conduct policy during the lockout but that his case would be reviewed once the work stoppage is over. Cook denies any wrongdoing.

NFL owners have locked out their players. The league and its players association failed to come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement Friday. The NFL Players Association decided to decertify Friday afternoon, paving the way for the league's owners to lock out the players when the CBA expired later that night. The NFL and its players are at odds over how to divide billions of dollars in annual revenue, extended benefits for retired players, and expanding the regular season by two games to 18.
