Former U grid coach Warmath dies
Minnesota Sports-- A well-known former football coach for the University of Minnesota has died. 98-year-old Murray Warmath passed away Wednesday night in Bloomington of natural causes.
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - A well-known former football coach for the University of Minnesota has died. 98-year-old Murray Warmath passed away Wednesday night in Bloomington of natural causes.
Warmath is the last Gophers coach to win a national championship, a Big Ten title and a Rose Bowl. His teams won two Big Ten titles and appeared in a pair of Rose Bowls.
A native of Humboldt, Tennessee, Warmath took over the Gopher football program in 1954 and coached for 18 seasons.
