Minnesota News-- Federal regulators are planning a safety review of all nuclear power plants in U.S. including two facilities in Minnesota.
RED WING - Federal regulators are planning a safety review of all nuclear power plants in U.S. including two facilities in Minnesota.
President Obama made the recommendation to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in response to the nuclear crisis in Japan. Xcel Energy owns the two nuclear power plants in Minnesota - Prairie Island near Red Wing, and Monticello.
An Xcel Energy spokeswoman says they have already started to re-examine programs in place to respond to natural events or significant loss of critical plant systems to ensure continued protection. The company says its plants will function even with a total loss of power after an extreme event.
