UMD punches ticket for Frozen Four, beats No. 1 Yale 5-3
Minnesota Sports-- The University of Minnesota-Duluth men's hockey team won't have to go far to pay their next contest, the Frozen Four in St. Paul as the Bulldogs beat No. 1 ranked Yale 5-3 to win the NCAA Division I East Regional Saturday.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The University of Minnesota-Duluth men's hockey team won't have to go far to pay their next contest, the Frozen Four in St. Paul as the Bulldogs beat No. 1 ranked Yale 5-3 to win the NCAA Division I East Regional Saturday.
UMD scored four second period goals to take a 5-1 lead and held off a Yale rally in the third period.
Mike Connolly score a goal and had three assists. Jack Connolly also scored for the Bulldogs 24-10-6 along with Justin Fontaine and Mike Seidel and Wade Bergmann.
Kenny Reiter made 30 saves for UMD as they will be in their first Frozen Four since 2004. Also winning their regional was Michigan, beating Colorado College 2-1 in St. Louis.
In regional semifinal action in Green Bay, North Dakota will face Denver in the Midwest Regional finals Sunday at the Resch Center as the Sioux beat RPI 6-0 while Denver needed two overtimes to beat Western Michigan 3-2. Over in the Northeast Regional in Manchester, New Hampshire, the host UNH beat Miami, Oh. 3-1 while Notre Dame topped Merrimack 4-3 to face the Wildcats in the finals.
