MILWAUKEE - Marquette University men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams signed a new contract yesterday that’s expected to pay him over two-million-dollars a year.

Terms were not disclosed but the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says it’s expected to be a roll-over contract for an uncertain amount of time. Williams’ previous contract rolled over each year to keep it going for six years into the future. He was paid one-point-six million dollars last season – and he’ll get a raise from the one-point-seven million he was expected to make next year. Marquette acted quickly to reward the 38-year-old Williams for his NCAA Sweet-16 showing this month – and to keep him away from other schools that sought him out. Williams is 69-37 in three seasons in Milwaukee. Williams said he and his family are humbled and grateful to continue the journey.

Samantha Logic of Racine J.I. Case had four points and four rebounds in the McDonald’s All-American girls’ high school game in Chicago. The senior guard came off the bench to help the East team beat the West last night, 78-to-66. Logic played 14 minutes, and hit 2-of-7 shots from the floor. She said she just wanted to have fun, and she didn’t over-think the prospects of playing in the United Center before a national cable TV audience. Over 100 of her friends and relatives were on hand, wearing T-shirts that read, “Logical.” And Logic said her teammates noticed the support. On Tuesday, Logic was named the Associated Press girls’ state high school player-of-the-year. And the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches’ Association named her Miss Basketball for this season. Logic averaged 15 points, eight-and-a-half rebounds, seven assists, and four steals for Racine J.I. Case in his senior year. She’ll play her college ball at Iowa.

The Milwaukee Admirals clinched their ninth straight American Hockey League playoff berth with a 3-2 shootout win over San Antonio last night at the Bradley Center. Andreas Thuresson scored the deciding goal in the shootout, as Milwaukee regained sole possession of first place in the West Division by two points over an idle Houston. Goal-tender Atte Engren played his first full game for the Admirals, and had 30 saves. The Admirals are now 7-and-8 in shootouts. They’ll try to hang onto their division lead tomorrow night when they host Houston.

Suspended Green Bay Packers’ defensive end Johnny Jolly will stay in jail at least until his next court appearance on April 20th. A judge in Houston denied Jolly’s second request to be freed on bond yesterday. That’s after his arrest last Friday for felony drug possession – his second such arrest since July of 2008. Police found 600 grams of codeine in his car when they stopped the 28-year-old Jolly last Friday morning. He was not present at his court appearance yesterday, and his attorney Carl Moore maintained his client’s innocence. Moore said he would try again to get Jolly freed on bond. Prosecutor Todd Keagle said that if Jolly is convicted this time, he’ll be prosecuted for his 2008 drug charge. He entered a deferred prosecution agreement a year ago, in which his conviction would have been dropped by staying clean for a year. The NFL suspended Jolly for all of last season, when the Packers won the Super Bowl. Jolly applied for reinstatement in February, but that’s on hold during the owners’ lockout. Moore said Jolly has been training as part of that effort – and he did not know how the latest arrest would affect Jolly’s playing status.
