Mauer leads Twins over Sabathia and Yankees 5-4
Minnesota Sports-- It was best against best in the Bronx Tuesday night and Joe Mauer emerged the winner as he led the Minnesota Twins to a 5-4 over ace pitcher C.C. Sabathia and the New York Yankees 5-4 at Yankee Stadium.
NEW YORK - It was best against best in the Bronx Tuesday night and Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins emerged the winner as Mauer's game-winning hit overcame the New York Yankees and ace pitcher C.C. Sabathia two-hit, six strikeout performance in a 5-4 win at Yankee Stadium.
Joe Mauer singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as the Twins rallied from four runs down to spoil Sabathia's gem of a pitching performance. Delmon Young's three-run double capped a four-run eighth inning for Minnesota. Matt Capps worked two scoreless innings for the win and Joe Nathan worked a 1-2-3 tenth to notch his second save.
Mark Teixeira clubbed a three-run homer and Andruw Jones added a solo shot for New York. Carl Pavano takes to the mound today opposite Freddy Garcia for the Yanks.
